Jiri Hornik, Partner, Kocian Solc Balastik (Prague)

Having graduated at the Institute of Air and Space Law at McGill University, Jiri joined Kocian Solc Balastik in 2001 and started building the firm's aviation practice. In this area, his experience ranges from advising to airlines as well as governmental entities. In 2004, he served as a trainee at the Aviation Directorate of DG TREN in Brussels.
He has been continuously advising several airlines, such as Travel Service, a leading Central European charter and low-cost carrier, easyJet, Air France, on all variety of issues linked with their business in the Czech Republic, including regulatory, aircraft financing and claim management.
Jiri has also acted as a chief legal advisor for the Czech Air Navigation Services Provider in negotiating the establishment of a Functional Airspace Block Central Europe, an initiative of seven central European states/air navigation services providers established with the aim to meet the SES requirements. He has also negotiated, on behalf of the Czech Ministry of Transportation, an international treaty to regulate the liability in a cross-border provision of the air navigation services.
Jiri's comprehensive air law experience covers also representing lessors and financiers in a number of aircraft leasing transaction or providing advice, for example, to Airport Prague, or the Association of L410 Operators.
Jiri is a member of the Management Committee of the European Air Law Association. He is also a member of the Czech Bar, the International Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association where he co-chairs Prague Chapter of the International Section. He also chairs air transport section of the Czech Transport Law Society and acts as the editor-in-chief of the Society's Bulletin.
